As an entry level product designer for Johnson Outdoors, you will conceptualize and implement dynamic 3D product designs as well as rich user interfaces for the marine market. This creative position will ideate the physical product design, as well as design and implement the user interface that is part of the products broader ecosystem.
The industrial design responsibilities of the position will entail conceptualizing the product, developing the product in 3D CAD, and coordinating the creation of prototypes and final production parts.
The UI/UX responsibilities of the position will involve the creation of thoughtful user experience models and designing rich user interfaces for embedded, mobile, and web applications. In addition, this position will also be responsible for creating and maintaining the products brand language, whether it is the brands physical product or the brands digital interface.
This unique position will collaborate with other design staff, research and development staff, engineering team members, and marketing/management staff regarding the products aesthetics, ergonomics, and usability.
Depending on the skillset of the individual, the responsibilities of this position will be constructed around their industrial design and UI/UX talents. The ideal individual will either have experience in both 3D product design as well as UI/UX design or at minimum have the aptitude to grow into this dynamic role.

Create dynamic product design concepts
Create, implement, and maintain 3D brand language for multiple product lines
Implement 3D design using Creo
Work closely with mechanical engineers, hardware engineers, and manufacturers to ensure design objective is achieved and maintained
Coordinate outside and in-house protypes and model making
Work closely with manufacturing vendors and sourcing managers
Create dynamic vector illustrations for user guides, product illustrations, packaging graphics, and installation guides
User Experience Design:
Craft and refine innovative user experience models to meet business requirements and end-user needs. Perform product research, writing design specifications and developing original creative design concepts.
Conduct user experience research to collect user stories, business requirements and feedback from stakeholders.
Create and implement user interface designs including process flows, sitemaps, wireframes, mockups, interaction patterns and click-through prototypes to design intuitive and engaging user experiences.
Perform usability testing and user research including building user interface mockups and prototypes as needed.
Work closely with software developers for embedded and mobile applications as well as testers to deliver solutions through iterative releases. Ensure designs are being implemented to specifications and with high quality.
Partner with product and marketing teams to translate user requirements and cases into intuitive cross-channel user interface designs for B2C mobile and web platform.
User Interface Design:
Design, develop, and implement interfaces based on brand strategy.
Design UI elements and tools such as navigation menus systems, search boxes, and widgets for digital interfaces.
Adhere to and create design style standards for graphic interfaces, typography, and iconography
Work with other UI/UX designers and software developers to ensure the user interface is functional and visually appealing.
Create detailed design layout for user interfaces. Work closely with company stakeholders such as design management, business development, marketing and product line management to ensure strategic product design is in sync with business objectives.
Ability to participate in user insight studies to understand our core user group
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Education: Bachelors degree in industrial design, user interaction design, user experience design, graphic design, or equivalent.
Experience: Typically, 0-4 years of experience in Industrial Design or UI/UX design.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Product Design conceptualization via sketching or computer rendering
3D CAD development (Knowledge of Creo is a plus)
Display a command of 3D form aesthetic and design language trends
Knowledge of Interactive wireframe software and applications
Knowledge of Adobe XD and Adobe Creative Suite
Ability to creative rich user experiences, GUI assets creation, user interaction flow diagrams, and UI prototypes
Demonstrated product design experience in mobile or tablet market, iOS and Android experience, and skills in Human Computer Interface (HCI) with a focus on touch screen design
Ability to establish and preserve product brand language
Experience acting as champion for the end user while maintaining business objectives
Ability to effectively function and work effectively with end users, mechanical engineers, software developers, brand managers, design staff, and other Engineering/Design team members
